Half of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point. So why are half of us afraid to tell our bosses?
In 2023, Publicis Groupe made a pledge to end the stigma of cancer in the workplace. The work won a Cannes Grand Prix. But they wanted to take it to the next level - how do they start a movement where employers support those working with cancer?
Our approach was from the top, down: use some of the biggest brands in the world to set an example for what support should look like.
Some of the biggest brands in the word have already signed the pledge, what if we give their products and packaging a seal, proudly stating how they’re Made By Cancer. Because when it affects one in two, working with cancer can’t be taboo.
But perhaps this isn’t enough. Cancer is tough. Tough to think about, tough to talk about, tough to know what to say. So what if we broke it down into just five words - the only five words a person wants to hear when they tell their employer they have cancer.
